Food grade calcium chloride is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for certain uses in human foods (21 CFR 184.1193). These products are also USDA-approved for certain uses in the production of meat and poultry products (9 CFR 424.21(c)) and may also be used in pre-harvest foliar crop sprays as a calcium supplement.
